Once upon a time, a man's word and a handshake was all that was needed to agree on an a deal. Now, we conduct all sorts of screenings and evaluations backed up with legal documents before we will even talk to other parties. This is not just in the world of corporate enterprise but extends to small businesses as well. Where and when did this all change? There are many reasons of course, many of which are quite valid, but somewhere along the lack of personal and corporate has contributed.


INTEGRITY is the value we place upon our own actions (when no one is looking)


Whilst once the norm, Integrity now seems to be the exception to the rule. Think back to when someone praised another person’s integrity. It was not so much out of praise for what they did, but more so, because it was a surprise, it was unexpected. It would seem that such behaviour is the exception rather than the rule in business and politics.

A common trait among successful businesses is the corporate integrity of such organisations. It should not matter what size your business is, you should always try to hold a higher studies and how it operates and conducts of its customers, suppliers, shareholders and the broader community.

Sadly, the Internet has made it very easy to bluff your way through business. It has created a new type of business, the virtual or online business, where you no longer need have a physical presence and it would seem, no staff. The old rules of business integrity and how it is established now seem to have little precedents. What we need are new sets of rules to co-exist.

The strange thing is that in fact we ae seeing a strong need for quite the opposite. Business trust, credibility and integrity are now more important than ever. Business owners should look to how they can substantiate and build on these at all times through your website.


CREDIBILITY is the value others place upon the actions we take


Our own experience has shown up many websites for what appeared to be reputable businesses that are fictitious. Addresses given are for other businesses or empty blocks of land, no business details given at all by way of the name of business principles, address or phone numbers. Another practice observed is listing non-existing staff in the favourite "our team" section. You can invariably spot photos that do not belong and you can quickly do a Google image search to find the same person working all around the world.

As for the testimonials placed on many sites, many of these generally should not be trusted unless you can verify the source of the testimonial. Other options and tools are available to include such content more effectively within your website.

Integrity is something you have to do to for yourself and this will establish your credibility. Fail to support your integrity with in consistent behaviour and you will ultimately lose any credibility or trust that you have built up - all essential if you wish to retain or gained customers through your website.
