People are time poor. They are consistently bombarded by a steady stream of information messages from websites, e-mails, social media, television, radio, conversations and print media. In fact, SuperProfile deduced that back in 2010, the average person process 2904 messages per day, which is only 52 they paid attention to that of those only for today positively remember.

So what hope you've got based on these sorts of statistics ! The secret lies in understanding what creates a favourable experience for your audience.

Whilst design is very important to capture that initial interest, is what you have to say that will count in the long run. People are only interested in information that is;

  • relating to their needs
  • interesting
  • current
  • well written
  • succinct
  • positioned well
  • truthful

Your market is bound by a shared interest in your products and services. Preferable to this there will be other aspects of associated interest. Understanding exactly what this means provides you with the framework of what your audience sees as being relevant to them.

Of course, the needs of the individual will vary so not everything you have to say will be relevant to every. By providing consistently relevant content to the wider audience however will ensure that certain content will be relevant to the individual.

For example, take a building company based in a certain city. Content relating to the housing construction industry, house design and planning is relevant content. Content about the local weather, events or history, whilst actual and loosely related to your business because it is established there, it is however irrelevant. Your market is not interested and do not look to you as being a leading authority in those fields.

Providing consistently relevant content around your business, service, products or industry leads to a positive perception of you being recognised as a leader in your field.

The style in which you present this information will vary depending on the medium through which you are sharing this information. It is important to understand that writing for a Web page is different to how you write for an article or a post on a social network.
